After you have requested your course and it is enable
you are ready to get started. The quick start guide below will walk
you through the basic setup for your course. This will get you up
and running. If you would like more information on the individual
sections of UBlearns refer to the INDEX tab on the side of this
page.
Let's get started.....
- Log into UBlearns.
- Click on the "Courses Tab".
- Click on the course title you want to setup.
- Once you are in the course click on Control Panel in
the navigation menu.
- Determine what you want to use. Go to the "Course Options"
section and select "Manage Tools". Then click
on "Enable Blackboard Tools".
This page displays a list of features that you can turn on and
off. Anything you don't think you are going to use, turn it off.
You can always turn it back on. It is better to start out with
a few features and then add on features as you need or as you
become more familiar with the program.
You can enable a feature for three different types of users; UB
users, Guests, and Observers.
- Enabled - All UB students currently registered for
your class will have access to this feature.
- Allow Guest - Someone who is not a UB student registered
for your class will have access to this feature. This option
is not available for all features. Certain features are only
for enrolled students.
- Allow Observer - An Observer can be assigned by the
System Administrator. A person with an Observer role is assigned
to observe a specific user on the Blackboard Learning System.
You should not enable this user unless told to do so by an
administrator.
Once you have enabled the features you want to use, click the
"Submit button" at the bottom of the page.
Click OK on the next screen. This will bring you back
to the main control panel page.

In the "Course Options" section, click on
"Manage Course Menu". This section allows you
to determine what menu items appear in the navigation and what
order they appear. There are a number of ways you can modify
the course menu. Below is a list of what you could do.
- Change order of navigation buttons - If you would
like to change the order of the navigation just change the
number in the picklist next to the navigation item. Once you
are done re-ordering the navigation click submit.
- Modify properties of the navigation button - Click
on the "Modify" button next to the navigation
button. This will allow you to change the name of the button,
or the access levels on the area.
- Add new buttons - To add a new item to the navigation
menu choose an item from the Add section at the top of the
page.
- In the "Course Tools" section, click on "Staff
Information". Click on add "Profile".
Fill out your contact information and office hours. Then click
Submit.
- In the "Content Area" section, click on "Course
Information". This is where you can upload your course
syllabus. To do this, click on the "Item Button".
Type the name you want for this document in the second field or
pick one from the picklist. Scroll down to the "Content
Attachments" area. Click the "Browse button"
and select the file you want to upload. Leave everything else
the way it is and click the "Submit button".
Congratulations! You now have the
basic information in your UBlearns course. To customize your course
further see the INDEX.
